The following stories may fire your imagination, pique your interest. Some say 1MDB is Malaysia's Sovereign Wealth fund; to others they asked what wealth fund when its total capitalization is just One million ringgit? But, then again, if you think you can look down on the pet idea of the Malaysian prime minister, think again. His idea has the potential of turning the now world famous - or shall we say, infamous - 1Malaysia Development Berhad into a giant corporation you can ever imagine - even bigger than Bill Gate's Microsoft! At least, it could be, if the original course is stayed. It was supposed to inspire Malaysians to think big besides advance growth, according to its slogans screaming out of giant bill boards throughout the country. 'Backed' by the finance ministry who owns it - which means money will never be the problem - it can only succeed. But..it didn't. It failed! That's why it may have piqued many people's curiosity. How can a company flush with cash and can borrow any amount (billions) anytime could fail? Well, this may be in line with your thinking. People have seen since its inception - I mean after its name was changed in 1999 from Trengganu Investment Authority (TIA) to the present - it hasn't done any business! I have used present tense deliberately. It hasn't done any business yet. I mean if you are in business you need to make profit or find ways to make profit. Or close shop. Oh, I had heard about their filings of tax returns and hiring of a couple of internationally known auditors to sign off on their balance sheets; but these concerned only the company's borrowings and interests to be paid. Two massive bonds were issued to the tune of $7 billions. To buy up power plants. Again I want to say if you are in business to make money even investing in independent Power Plants, it should be done with the view to making a profit. The decision may be long term or short term, it doesn't matter, it has to make money, or no deal. May be they have done the right thing. Maybe luck was not on their side. Still, the amount is staggering. I didn't know having or managing so much money can be a problem! But many - especially the Malays - have not given up hope yet. Yes, may be the durians are just ripening; may be they need time and may fall soon!

Malaysia's Vision 2020

By:David Lang

Malaysia is supposed to be on its way to becoming a developed nation, by the year 2020. Will she make it (in less than five years -tick-tuck, tick-tuck)? There is no doubt the year 2020 is coming whether the country is ready or not, and if that will be the only requirement then Malaysia will attain that developed nation status on schedule. There is a question, though, Will Malaysia, or Malaysians, for that matter, be ready for that status as far as their affluence, quality of life's concern? Currently Malaysia's GNI per capita stood at US$10060. According to the World Bank high income economies are those with GNI per capita of US$12,745. And until Malaysians earn much more to be there, the developed nation status may not be achieved even by the year 2020. The futility of declaring a country a high income country when it's not, achieves nothing. May be even counter-productive; it lulls the country into false sense of success and premature celebration. Don't forget China reportedly overtook Japan as the world's second largest economy, but in actual fact China's citizens' ca pita income is a fraction of the incomes of the Japanese who earn $37,000. Chinese incomes range from $13,000. China's gross domestic product, taken as a whole, may beat Japan's, but in term of quality of life, and GNI per capita income, the criteria for a developed nation status, China still has a lot of catching up to do. That's why China still qualifies as recipient of Japan's economic aid meant for developing countries. Comparing with the Chinese per capita domestic product, Malaysia is even worse off. Unless the government bucks up and rushes to create more wealth for its citizens, the Vision 2020 dream may remain just that ..a dream.

'MCA go home' vs 'Where was DAP 13 years ago?' at Jonker Walk

'MCA go home' vs 'Where was DAP 13 years ago?' at Jonker Walk
What?! Gan qualified his being there as a survey, not to protest? Let alone to lead the protest? Did Mr. Gan Tian Loo realize that the MCA protest carries more weight than DAP protest many times over. The state government, being UMNO-led government, considers the DAP as the opposition working hand-in-hand with PAS and PKR to oust UMNO from power, rescinding the directive on the request from DAP leaders will make the party even more popular. I thought, at first, here come the MCA, finally to do what it's supposed to do. Then the expected  happened. He got cold feet. The reporter who covered the protest reported Gan was suddenly cautious . He was like ..."I'm here to lend my support to..the .. no, wait! I am not here to support the traders - but just to do a quick survey! But I am glad to be standing here with the protesters but reporters, please put it down in black and white I am not, I repeat, am not here as part of the protest. This is the reason the MCA was shunned, I mean has been shunned by the Chinese. They do not represent the Chinese anymore. They cannot get things done anymore unlike in the old days. Gan admitted his meeting with the chief minister was fruitless, but would keep trying. Keep trying for what? He should stop embarrassing the MCA and reducing its credibility further by continuing to beg despite being rebuffed earlier. Again, this proved that the Malaysian Chinese Association has really completely lost its usefulness. If a small matter like Jonker Walk closure was beyond its power then, that 's it.

About The Author Behind The Write-Way Gazette

Welcome to The Write-Way Gazette

The Write-Way Gazette is part of my quest to become a published writer, and Blogger,
the parcel. It is a dream come true for me as I have always wanted to be an author and an editor.

It would be great to see my own book with my photo on the front cover, sitting on bookshelf in a bookstore. Or to be an editor of a book publishing firm who reads piles of submitted manuscripts everyday, and has the final say in who gets whose novel published. Or helm a magazine or daily newspaper.

Zuckerberg updated his status

Facebook updated his status

write way to riches

Saturday, June 16, 2012

This is what I posted on MSNBC Newsvine column recently:

SyriaInTurmoil

Like everyone else when it's times to take the plunge, Zuckerberg was man enough to go down on his knee to ask his sweeheart: "Will you marry me?" And then went to say "Yes, I do want to take Miss Priscilla Chan as my wedded loving wife."

That was the normal and right thing to do. His mother mother and his family expect him to; you know, it's the right age for a young man to settle down. They want him to have children, to prosper and be happy.

That's what we all do when we reach that age. All of us; whether we are Facebook CEO or a billionair or not.

Zuckerberg was a lucky man to have landed such a quality fish. I heard he had been going steady with the girl for almost ten years. They had met at Harvard when he had almost nothing except the 'hoodie' on his neck, and yet she stood by him always. Nothing could separate them. Their being together was decided in heaven. Now they just wanted to complete the formality: to be legally man and wife.

This was a day of days for this happy couple: Zuckerberg was just successfully done with Facebook IPO, while Priscilla Chan, or Mrs Mark Zuckerberg graduated from California University, and is now a doctor.

But I digress.

I sometimes wonder, why most men, young and old, after they made it (after they reached the so-called stratosphere, so to speak) and then wanted to settle down, they chose a Chinese bride. What made them do it? It's unknown why Chinese women seemed so irresistable to business tycoons, and whether they are attractive to ordinary men too. But for the likes of Murdoch or Zuckerberg, they would settle only for a Chinese woman (it didn't matter whether she came from Communist China or Chinese-American or overseas Chinese - just Chinese).

So, what makes a Chinese woman so special? Why they have become so ubiquitous and synonymous with...er...successful men? There may be many reasons; let me guess: they make exquisite wivee and life-partners. They are beautiful, intelligent and, most important, loyal.

This is not to say, however, that Chinese brides are the best in the world; and that other women - white, black or hispanic - are inferior. No! I don't mean that. But let's just say, for successful men like Zuckerberg and Murdoch, they had found in their brides (Priscilla Chan, Wendi Deng) what they need and demand in a bride, in their brides.

It's akin, more or less, to choosing or applying for a credit card. Visa or Master cards have come to be known as the prefered cards for merchants as well as shoppers for a reason. They are reliable. So are the Chinese brides.

Busy and successful men don't fool around when it comes to their credit cards. They want cards that they can count on everytime and every where. They don't want to miss their flights, or cannot fly or cannot go to the opera. That's why they choose Visa Or Master cards. And that's why they choose Chinese brides - when it comes to love and family.

So; when the Australian News Corp Empire Supremo, Rupert Murdoch wanted someone to cry on his shoulder, he selected a Chinese woman by the name of Wendi, Wendi Deng. So far he's not regretting his decision.

If we ask Mark Zuckerberg why he chose Priscilla Chan over (may be) thousands of eligible women out there who were eager to say yes to his proposal, I am sure he'd say he chose his wife not because of her big breats or fantastic ass; but because he found everything he wanted in a wife in her and he loved her. And she happened to be Chinese, too....of course.

This article, however, in no way implies that Caucasian, Hispanic, African or other Asian women make horrible wives. They don't.

If some women find my two cents objectionable, I am sorry.

I am not claiming my opinion is the only one that's right. It's just that that's the way things are, or maybe going to be for the foreseeble future, as I see it, when it comes to corporate leaders.

I want to hear from you all. Are you like Murdoch or Zuckerberg, married to Chinese women? I am.

As to why, you may argue, a lot of other tycoons are not dumping their non-Chinese wives in droves, I honestly don't know.

But let me ask this, though: what makes you think they don't want to dump their wives for Chinese brides?

Zuckerberg became a married man

Facebook boss took the plunge

write way to riches

This is what I posted on MSNBC Newsvine in recent discussion about Mark Zuckerberg

taking the plunge:

SyriaInTurmoil

johnbarker,

I don't think she's thinking about her billions and how to spend them. She looked exactly how she felt, who she really was: herself. Innocent, honest,
trust-worthy. Unswayed, if I may add, by the big fortune that she came into.

Other
girls may jump with joy, speechless with excitement, and non-stop sms her girlfriends to show off. But not this girl. That's why Zuckerberg fell for her. Plain and simple.

I heard they had met at Harvard more than nine years ago, and their

friendship blossomed into love despite what he could show he owned back then was his 'hoodies!' And she was not a Miss Universe either. They probably saw something in each other and liked them.

Excellent choice, Zuckerberg. Congrats to you and your bride.

This is what I posted on MSNBC Newsvine in recent discussion about Mark Zuckerberg

taking the plunge:

elvis payne,

I agree she didn't appear like a normal, typical bride, one that has

been bowled over by the ralization that she had not only married her college sweetheart

but also snared a husband with a networth of billions. She could be affected by nerves.

Depending on the prenuptial agreement, if any, that Zuckerberg may resort to,which

seemed unlikely, considering they have been a couple for nine years, she had had just

become a very rich women. It probably made her a target of gossips from those jealous of

her fortune.

Yes, she didn't look happy; she may be happy but she didn't show it.

Her face was somewhat downcast though not exactly miserable. Perhaps she was thinking

about the uncalled-for remarks...'damned lucky bitch; don't know what he saw in her, he

should...' she had been hearing for the last few days.

Then again, she was

probably thinking, wishing they were not so rich but just have enough, like they used

to, to enable them to live a good life. She was prepared to spend the rest of her life

with Zuckerberg even if all he could afford was wearing a 'hoodie.'

That's

probably why the Facebook founder chose her over all other other fishes in the

oceans.

A man of his wealth can have any beautiful girl or girls he desires. But

Zuckerberg didn't allow fame and fortune to get to his head. He's a remarkable young man

by any standard.

Have a nice day.

May be the anglers should think of using what they call scarecrows - or, in this

case, scarebathers or bather-scarers - to fool them into staying away from the

lake.

Look, nothing can scare (or kill) and, therefore, deter like piranhas. The

scenes of swarming piranhas stripping all flesh from bathers'legs and thighs right under

their very eyes before they could get away in time can be frightening.

It's inconceivable that people don't know what piranhas can do to them; so if they see signs such as this, they

know what to do:

BEWARE! PIRANHAS HAVE BEEN SIGHTED IN THIS LAKE!
AND MAY BE BREEDING FAST!
CAUTION: AVOID GOING NEAR OR BATHING IN THE LAKE AT
ALL COSTS!

-- Put up by Good Samaritan.

I hope the bathers know what a piranha is.

The Chinese reportedly want to send agents to poison the Dalai Lama

write way to riches

Sunday, May 13, 2012

This what I posted on MSNBC Newsvine today.

SyriaInTurmoil

He must be really in danger for him, a man of kindness and

compassion, to come out with that type of statement. But his Holiness is not worried

about his own safety. He doesn't want to die because he knows it won't be in the

interests of the suffering Tibetans.

If it happens, then they don't only lose

freedom but hope too.

I have Chinese blood running through my veins too, though

not 100%, but I sympathize with the Dalai Lama. Why the Chinese hate him so much? This

is my two cents: revenge! The Chinese government could not forgive him for orchestrating

the 1959 uprising. But at the same time it was the Dalai Lama that brought Tibet into

China though unintentionally through his defeat and exile to India. China used to occupy

Tibet; but grudgingly it behaved as an occupying power, not defacto leader or owner of

the territory.

But after the uprising failed, and Tibet was leaderless for a

while, everything changed: China began to want the Buddhist Kingdom as one of its

territories and that means it must rid Tibet of all traces of its history, language,

culture and customs - everything must be removed (completely) and then announce to the

world that Tibet was Chinese, is Chinese and will be Chinese.

The world (the

manhoodless world which is led by the US government) is even prepared to swallow that, I

mean go along with the falsifying of Chinese ownership of Tibet. Which is akin to saying

MuayThai belonged to China or came from China.

But no matter what, and thank God for

that, the Dalai Lama, the one and only Dalai Lama is still alive, and ubiquitous! Which

pisses off the Chinese rulers. And they (the Chinese government) knows that as long as

the Tibetans continue to receive blessing from him or another Dalai Lama who succeeds

him, China cannot hope to win over their minds completely.

The best they can do is

to deprive them of freedom to practice their religion or to live according to Tibet's

traditional customs and norms. But it will take a lot more to break their minds. But the

chances of the Chinese succeeding is very slim as the Chinese at certain time will have

to answer for their Karma.

His Holiness while not aggressive or violent by nature,

is not a timid man to agree to fade away just to preserve his own life either. He has

shown a remarkable courage in facing up to the endless onslaughts from

the Chinese.

Perhaps being more well-versed about the effect of Karma (those who do good earn merits

and live a healthy and happy life by them, while those who do bad will suffer) than

anyone alive, has made the Holiness believe that those who were cruel to Him and His

people will not last long: their days are numbered. He may be awaiting the day of days

when he will return triumphant to his homeland, and rule again.

Far-fetched?

Far-fetched or not, he doesn't care. He knows everyone will pay for his Karma, whether

that person believes in Buddhist teaching or not. Nobody can escape. It's just a matter

of time. When your time arrives, off you go. You will be taken whether you you've

repented, asked for and received forgiveness, or have changed your way, or not.

This the Dalai Lama knows only too well. And the more His Holiness is confident, the more

insecure becomes the Chinese government. That's why they won't rest until they get rid

the holy monk, or their Karma get them first.

The Chinese blind lawyer

The blind Chinses Lawyer

May 11 2012 16:52 PM

This what I posted MSNBC Newsvine discussion of news of the imminent triumph of the

Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood in the coming presidential election.

I think the Muslim Brotherhood will be the chosen one.

They have long

prepared for this, almost can taste the sweetness of their succes (of complete control

of Egypt); so don't expect them to tread carefully like before the parliamentary

election any more. They don't have to.They have the numbers now.

That's why they

were cheeky enough to step forward to offer their candidate for president.Since the Arab

spring was unleashed, their chances had never been better.

They had triumphed in

Tunisia, Libya, Egypt and had replenished their ranks and boosted their confidence so

much that they dared to take on Assad's army in Syria.

In Syria, unlike in Egypt

where they needed to tread carefully, is free for all.

Anybody - the Arab

leaque, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, can have a shot. No question asked, nobody

cares whether it's right or wrong to interfere in the internal affairs of an independent

country. The question of sovereignty was not taken seriously any more.

If you

don't like certain leader for a reason, instigate his citizens to protest, then use that

as an excuse to defame that leader. It's simple. It's effective. It had worked well in

Libya (A mere 50 people protested, at first, and then became 500 and 5000. And we

accused their leader of firing on his own people. And then we went all out to oust that

leader.

The funny thing is when the former prime minister Absit ordered the Thai

army to suppress the protests in Bangkok where up to ninety people were killed, the US

performed a hiatus. Neat again. Nowadays A lot of people see more double standards being

played out than they can stomach, but what can they do? Nothing. Powerless. So keep

silent. You think these Saudi Arabia or Bahrain or Qatar's leaders are angels? They are

many times worse than Assad.

In Syria which is secular, everyone is free to

practice his religion; women are free. You can carry a bible in public in Syria and no

harm will come to you. If there is any, it definitely comes from the Muslim Brotherhood,

not Assad or his secret police.

But try doing that in Saudi Arabia and you will be

beheaded in public square.

I wonder what had happened to the journalist who wrote

in Facebook page that Saudi women will not go to hell because they are already in hell?

I hope he's alright. But I am afraid my wish will be futile. By any account, he could be

history already.

I will be surprised if he's still alive.

I sometimes

wonder what is the US' principle or fierce protection of human rights, no matter they

are threatened? Does it support human rights anymore? Why it chooses and picks whose

human rights it wants to protect.

The world is getting crazier every

minute.

But the craziest thing by far is the foreign policy of Uncle Sam; it seems

lost as to where to go or whose human rights it should declare non-negotiable. The

Chinese blind lawyer's?
