The following stories may fire your imagination, pique your interest. Some say 1MDB is Malaysia's Sovereign Wealth fund; to others they asked what wealth fund when its total capitalization is just One million ringgit? But, then again, if you think you can look down on the pet idea of the Malaysian prime minister, think again. His idea has the potential of turning the now world famous - or shall we say, infamous - 1Malaysia Development Berhad into a giant corporation you can ever imagine - even bigger than Bill Gate's Microsoft! At least, it could be, if the original course is stayed. It was supposed to inspire Malaysians to think big besides advance growth, according to its slogans screaming out of giant bill boards throughout the country. 'Backed' by the finance ministry who owns it - which means money will never be the problem - it can only succeed. But..it didn't. It failed! That's why it may have piqued many people's curiosity. How can a company flush with cash and can borrow any amount (billions) anytime could fail? Well, this may be in line with your thinking. People have seen since its inception - I mean after its name was changed in 1999 from Trengganu Investment Authority (TIA) to the present - it hasn't done any business! I have used present tense deliberately. It hasn't done any business yet. I mean if you are in business you need to make profit or find ways to make profit. Or close shop. Oh, I had heard about their filings of tax returns and hiring of a couple of internationally known auditors to sign off on their balance sheets; but these concerned only the company's borrowings and interests to be paid. Two massive bonds were issued to the tune of $7 billions. To buy up power plants. Again I want to say if you are in business to make money even investing in independent Power Plants, it should be done with the view to making a profit. The decision may be long term or short term, it doesn't matter, it has to make money, or no deal. May be they have done the right thing. Maybe luck was not on their side. Still, the amount is staggering. I didn't know having or managing so much money can be a problem! But many - especially the Malays - have not given up hope yet. Yes, may be the durians are just ripening; may be they need time and may fall soon!

Malaysia's Vision 2020

By:David Lang

Malaysia is supposed to be on its way to becoming a developed nation, by the year 2020. Will she make it (in less than five years -tick-tuck, tick-tuck)? There is no doubt the year 2020 is coming whether the country is ready or not, and if that will be the only requirement then Malaysia will attain that developed nation status on schedule. There is a question, though, Will Malaysia, or Malaysians, for that matter, be ready for that status as far as their affluence, quality of life's concern? Currently Malaysia's GNI per capita stood at US$10060. According to the World Bank high income economies are those with GNI per capita of US$12,745. And until Malaysians earn much more to be there, the developed nation status may not be achieved even by the year 2020. The futility of declaring a country a high income country when it's not, achieves nothing. May be even counter-productive; it lulls the country into false sense of success and premature celebration. Don't forget China reportedly overtook Japan as the world's second largest economy, but in actual fact China's citizens' ca pita income is a fraction of the incomes of the Japanese who earn $37,000. Chinese incomes range from $13,000. China's gross domestic product, taken as a whole, may beat Japan's, but in term of quality of life, and GNI per capita income, the criteria for a developed nation status, China still has a lot of catching up to do. That's why China still qualifies as recipient of Japan's economic aid meant for developing countries. Comparing with the Chinese per capita domestic product, Malaysia is even worse off. Unless the government bucks up and rushes to create more wealth for its citizens, the Vision 2020 dream may remain just that ..a dream.

'MCA go home' vs 'Where was DAP 13 years ago?' at Jonker Walk

'MCA go home' vs 'Where was DAP 13 years ago?' at Jonker Walk
What?! Gan qualified his being there as a survey, not to protest? Let alone to lead the protest? Did Mr. Gan Tian Loo realize that the MCA protest carries more weight than DAP protest many times over. The state government, being UMNO-led government, considers the DAP as the opposition working hand-in-hand with PAS and PKR to oust UMNO from power, rescinding the directive on the request from DAP leaders will make the party even more popular. I thought, at first, here come the MCA, finally to do what it's supposed to do. Then the expected  happened. He got cold feet. The reporter who covered the protest reported Gan was suddenly cautious . He was like ..."I'm here to lend my support to..the .. no, wait! I am not here to support the traders - but just to do a quick survey! But I am glad to be standing here with the protesters but reporters, please put it down in black and white I am not, I repeat, am not here as part of the protest. This is the reason the MCA was shunned, I mean has been shunned by the Chinese. They do not represent the Chinese anymore. They cannot get things done anymore unlike in the old days. Gan admitted his meeting with the chief minister was fruitless, but would keep trying. Keep trying for what? He should stop embarrassing the MCA and reducing its credibility further by continuing to beg despite being rebuffed earlier. Again, this proved that the Malaysian Chinese Association has really completely lost its usefulness. If a small matter like Jonker Walk closure was beyond its power then, that 's it.

Obama's 'Let's Talk, Not Fight' An Unmitigated Failure

This is what I wrote when I participated in Obama's 'Let's Talk, not fight' two or three days ago on MSNBC Newsvine.com

Chanin Miller,

I couldn't agree more with you. Obama's policy of 'let's talk not fight, or whatever, was, still is, and will always be, fake. Try checking back to the time he's henpecked to launch strikes against Libya (because, in his own words, it was "doable").

If he truly believed in negotiation, he could send someone over (maybe even his Republican chum, John McCain, with whom he reportedly buried the hatchet!) to talk and settle the matter amicably. Instead, he kept calling the Col. to go; "you have lost your right to govern when you fire on your own people", and other craps.

He even cooked up a story about how if Qaddafi were to do as he said, to search house to house, room-to-room in pursuit of his opponents (Obama's own 'Red Guards' aka the rebels), up to 70,000 Eastern Libyans would be slaughtered mercilessly.

Many people thought the US president was telling the truth that "if we (the world) didn't do anything the world's conscience would be tainted!" If they thought the president was bluffing (speculating), they never said.

In another word, they bought Obama's snake oil, wholesale!I am amazed to learn (hear) many on Newsvine have bought and continue to buy Obama's trademark oil. For me, I didn't believe in Obama snake oil, that's what's it, and it always will be: snake oil.

From the time he's aspiring to be a first term senator, Obama knew he had problems to overcome in order to get elected to Illinois' senate, let alone run for the stratospheric office of the US president. He couldn't show his true educational level, nor his longform birth certificate; he's black (would the American people buy it? (what would later become his snake oil) given that there were a lot of capable (more capable) white American leaders on both sides of the aisles.

Obama refused to be daunted; he actually believed he was destined for great things. All he had to do was devise a way or two to achieve them.

He knew he had done something ungentlemanly or even unethically, but he never worried about them. Along the way, and they had been smooth so far, thanks god for that he talks back to himself (occasionally), and he had perfected a unique formula to overcome problems or opponents. In the latter case, he would go all out to chip or bash his rivals reputation (credibility) to tatters.

Even if he didn't overtly do it, it doesn't mean he didn't do. He just cleverly employed gullible people (people like the MSNBC talkshow hosts, you all know who they were, who gave their all to get Obama elected to the Whitehouse) to do the dirty job for him. For the record, he's not only good at strategising, he was also good at pretending. When he wanted to attack Qaddafi, he wanted to attack Qaddafi; only he didn't want to be seen as rushing to get involved in another war with a foreign country. He wanted to be seen to be pushed to do what he relished the most: toppling the first head of state of a foreign country, never mind, albeit a tiny country - a country that had allowed its military equipments to deteriorate to a point to be an easy push-over (very "doable" in his own words). Amazingly, he put his snake oil to go use , again. At first, he galvanized the British prime minister David Cameron and President Nicholas Sarkozy of France both of who faced a bleak future politically, to frenzy, only to seem reluctant to go it alone, or may even call the whole thing off; prompting the French to beat him to it (by launching the very first air strikes) so that he could say, see, I didn't launch the first strikes. Sarkozy did it. David Cameron did it.! But at the same time, there was no denying that this whole operation was what he craved very much. After hostilities started how many cruise missles the British had? Twelve! Even the French didn't relish wasting any more bombs after the initial excitement had died down.Meanwhile the rebels had been routed, again and again, and were on the verge of losing their Benghazi stronghold. Obama then had no choice but to get the US 99% involved, if not 99.99%, had he? If he's the peaceful person, as he claimed, he would call off the whole affair by blaming the Arab Leaque for having second thoughts about the coalition of the willing's adventure. He didn't, and you know why? Because it was his plans from the start. Nobody saw through him.Not even John McCain, a Vietnam war hero, my hero, bought in Obama's snake oil wholesale, so to speak. Heard tell he went on to tour of Eastern Libya on Obama's order. Good for him (I am sure). Lest you don't know, the Operation Ordyssey Dawn, as they are called by NATO and their partners in crime against humanity, was practically wholly owned by Uncle Sam.

The drones were Americans'; so were the munitions, bombs and cruise missiles, including warships anchored nearby. Even the top commanding general was an American, for crying out loud. So don't believe President Obama when he tells you he's reluctant to intervene in Libya; he purposely speculated that up to 70,000 people would die unless the world (NATO)intervened to stop the imagined massacre, didn't he? Even Pat Buchanan of Morning Joe fame dismissed Obama's claim...saying, during the see-saw battles of losing territories and retaking, over 5 months, no unnecessary killing of civilians were reported." "What's more, most of foreign correspondents were anti-Qaddafi, if there was no reports then because there were no massacres," he added. But, at the same place and time, Mika Brzezinski, an Obama supporter straight away launched an 'air strike' and bomb Pat Buchanan to pieces.

You're right, President Obama was well-connected.Even among the writers on this panel, there must be numerous supporters of Obama, I am sure. I hope they don't take things I wrote here too seriously. I believe I don't have to say good things about Obama if I don't...Anyway, if it means anything to them, I will say this: let Obama have his second term. Give him a chance..give four more years.

I don't thing he can get any worse than..
