The following stories may fire your imagination, pique your interest. Some say 1MDB is Malaysia's Sovereign Wealth fund; to others they asked what wealth fund when its total capitalization is just One million ringgit? But, then again, if you think you can look down on the pet idea of the Malaysian prime minister, think again. His idea has the potential of turning the now world famous - or shall we say, infamous - 1Malaysia Development Berhad into a giant corporation you can ever imagine - even bigger than Bill Gate's Microsoft! At least, it could be, if the original course is stayed. It was supposed to inspire Malaysians to think big besides advance growth, according to its slogans screaming out of giant bill boards throughout the country. 'Backed' by the finance ministry who owns it - which means money will never be the problem - it can only succeed. But..it didn't. It failed! That's why it may have piqued many people's curiosity. How can a company flush with cash and can borrow any amount (billions) anytime could fail? Well, this may be in line with your thinking. People have seen since its inception - I mean after its name was changed in 1999 from Trengganu Investment Authority (TIA) to the present - it hasn't done any business! I have used present tense deliberately. It hasn't done any business yet. I mean if you are in business you need to make profit or find ways to make profit. Or close shop. Oh, I had heard about their filings of tax returns and hiring of a couple of internationally known auditors to sign off on their balance sheets; but these concerned only the company's borrowings and interests to be paid. Two massive bonds were issued to the tune of $7 billions. To buy up power plants. Again I want to say if you are in business to make money even investing in independent Power Plants, it should be done with the view to making a profit. The decision may be long term or short term, it doesn't matter, it has to make money, or no deal. May be they have done the right thing. Maybe luck was not on their side. Still, the amount is staggering. I didn't know having or managing so much money can be a problem! But many - especially the Malays - have not given up hope yet. Yes, may be the durians are just ripening; may be they need time and may fall soon!

Malaysia's Vision 2020

By:David Lang

Malaysia is supposed to be on its way to becoming a developed nation, by the year 2020. Will she make it (in less than five years -tick-tuck, tick-tuck)? There is no doubt the year 2020 is coming whether the country is ready or not, and if that will be the only requirement then Malaysia will attain that developed nation status on schedule. There is a question, though, Will Malaysia, or Malaysians, for that matter, be ready for that status as far as their affluence, quality of life's concern? Currently Malaysia's GNI per capita stood at US$10060. According to the World Bank high income economies are those with GNI per capita of US$12,745. And until Malaysians earn much more to be there, the developed nation status may not be achieved even by the year 2020. The futility of declaring a country a high income country when it's not, achieves nothing. May be even counter-productive; it lulls the country into false sense of success and premature celebration. Don't forget China reportedly overtook Japan as the world's second largest economy, but in actual fact China's citizens' ca pita income is a fraction of the incomes of the Japanese who earn $37,000. Chinese incomes range from $13,000. China's gross domestic product, taken as a whole, may beat Japan's, but in term of quality of life, and GNI per capita income, the criteria for a developed nation status, China still has a lot of catching up to do. That's why China still qualifies as recipient of Japan's economic aid meant for developing countries. Comparing with the Chinese per capita domestic product, Malaysia is even worse off. Unless the government bucks up and rushes to create more wealth for its citizens, the Vision 2020 dream may remain just that ..a dream.

'MCA go home' vs 'Where was DAP 13 years ago?' at Jonker Walk

'MCA go home' vs 'Where was DAP 13 years ago?' at Jonker Walk
What?! Gan qualified his being there as a survey, not to protest? Let alone to lead the protest? Did Mr. Gan Tian Loo realize that the MCA protest carries more weight than DAP protest many times over. The state government, being UMNO-led government, considers the DAP as the opposition working hand-in-hand with PAS and PKR to oust UMNO from power, rescinding the directive on the request from DAP leaders will make the party even more popular. I thought, at first, here come the MCA, finally to do what it's supposed to do. Then the expected  happened. He got cold feet. The reporter who covered the protest reported Gan was suddenly cautious . He was like ..."I'm here to lend my support to..the .. no, wait! I am not here to support the traders - but just to do a quick survey! But I am glad to be standing here with the protesters but reporters, please put it down in black and white I am not, I repeat, am not here as part of the protest. This is the reason the MCA was shunned, I mean has been shunned by the Chinese. They do not represent the Chinese anymore. They cannot get things done anymore unlike in the old days. Gan admitted his meeting with the chief minister was fruitless, but would keep trying. Keep trying for what? He should stop embarrassing the MCA and reducing its credibility further by continuing to beg despite being rebuffed earlier. Again, this proved that the Malaysian Chinese Association has really completely lost its usefulness. If a small matter like Jonker Walk closure was beyond its power then, that 's it.

Fear And Capitulation

Rodrigo Duterte of Philippines has got himself into the bad book of President Barack Obama when he called the president "Son of a bitch!"
What the Boston Glob just wrote was just an editorial or an opinion of the person writing it. It's not a news which related to an event, in which case people expect it to be true, although sometimes news can be falsified for a purpose. An opinion (and I am not saying the Boston Glob's editorial) is normally coined to send a message - either praise, rebuke, or suck up to. The editor, who may have a daughter or son who has married a Muslim, may have been done good turn by a Muslim. Or, they may have been psyched out by terrorist bombings or news about the Muslim Brotherhood gaining the upper hand everywhere. And self-preservation dictates that they avoid condemning the Muslims who think nothing of beheading a non-Muslim, but be their sides.
During the height of numerous flotillas trying to breach the Israeli blockade of the Gaza strip, an American member of the the Palestinian-American Friendshsip Council admitted to the media he didn't care much about the Palestinian cause and that if not for his wife being a Palestinian, he wouldn't be on the ship risking life at all. This shows someone does something for the Muslims for a reason unique to himself. Some fears, some desires. Mostly the former. This desire to do good for the Muslims is natural and is the result of fear of the Muslim violence which is overwhelming. Born out of pure intent to be safe both at home and in the streets. To some this is not trivial matter. But these things are more prevalent in Britain and especially Ireland. They would do anything, spend anything, just to get into the good book of the Muslims. This fear of death and destruction does not affect only the psyche of ordinary British people but also the government. During the height of London bombings the British government seemed to have mustered up its courage, enough courage to condemn the bombings and vow to pursue and bring the perpetrators to justice. Immediately after that statement or statements - usually less than 24 hours - some elderly or influential imam would step forward to deplore the senseless acts which he said Islam never encourages. He also went on to assure the government the perpetrator or perpetrators were not representatives of the moderate and peace-loving Muslims. He at the same time implored the government not to create knee-jerk laws to prevent similar acts, saying it might harden the youths and make them feel unwanted and would provoke further violence. The imam said would provoke further violence to pressure the authorities. It worked. Perforce the government dropped the plan. But that didn't spell the end of jihadist terrorism in England. At best it delayed. Then it happened again. And the British government caved in again. Didn't they realize that the more they tolerated a bad behavior the bolder the culprits would become. Fear and capitulation will bring not safety but more violence as there practically no cost to the perpetrators. Even Muslim converts now become copycat militants to create...nuance for their humdrum existence. They do it because they know there are practically no consequences. Take the case of the two British-born African Muslim converts, for instance. They dared to commit murder in London streets in full view of passers-bye! And they didn't hurried away, but waited to be arrested.
First they selected a target (Lee Rigby the drummer of the British army). After ramming him to the ground with their car, then they sadistically carved up the victim with a cleaver. It's confirmed they beheaded the poor soldier but the government didn't allow the true picture to be revealed, for obvious reason. The prime minister who was full of bravo when confronting Col. Qaddafi whom he, President Obama and President Nichalos Sarkozy of France wanted dead or alive, was subdued and almost mute when told about the grisly murder. "...This could be terrorism," he said. One of the killers also kept haranguing passers-by for hours while holding the bloodied knife, sometimes shouting to none in particular but to Britain..."You all kill Muslims (in Afghanistan) we Muslims will kill you, too. You all will never be safe even here in Britain!" That could be terrorism? That's the furthest he's prepared to go.[Source]
And that's to be expected. Everyone in England and up to Ireland are on edge about Islamist violence. Immediately after the gruesome murder this prominent English writer rushed out an article calling the murder cruel and deplorable but...he blamed the role the British army played in Afghanistan. These younsters, he said, were of good characters before they became involved with the jihad indoctrination and were influenced. Yes, they were influenced alright by Muslim fanatics who vow to kill all non-believers.But they claimed they acted to pay back what Britain did to the Taliban. Most people in England if they can have their way, these two youngsters should be punished with...a slap on the wrist. They said in unison these two murderers deserved a second chance. And that's probably what they would get. They claimed why would get into the bad book of the Muslims for a mere army drummer!
These fears have now spread to the rest of Europe. Consumed the whole continent. It came about due to a few violent acts, of a medium scale, not big scale approaching the 9/11 bombing. But big enough to cow the Europeans into submission.
When was the last time you visited London and observed Christmas trees being displayed everywhere throughout Britain? A long, long time ago, right? Since the London bombings and the chaos that followed, which psyched out everyone, Christmas trees in public were nowhere to be seen, history, because they're not allowed. The major of London, reportedly one of the die-hard supporters of the Palestinian cause, explained one day: "Being a multi-racial, multi-cultural and multi-religious country, British people should not be insensitive to the feelings of minorities, especially our British Muslim brothers and sisters!"
This phenomenon may have already reached our shore. What with the Obama government warning to prosecute any Americans who dare to even badmouth the Muslims! Recently Attorney General Eric Holder warned Americans in no uncertain terms he will incarcerate anyone who dare to criticize the Muslim Brotherhood or American Muslims. Under the Obama administration, the Muslims should be congratulated for having won this special treatment for themselves. Any idea What have they done to deserve such a privilege un-enjoyed even by the white majorities? They had frightened quite a few people in the case of Britain. For America, President Obama. From the word go President Obama wanted to reach out to the Muslims: protect them wherever they are; help them if they are down, or forgive them if they commit crimes. Murder people.
When Major Hassan killed a group of Afghanistan-bound soldiers in cold-blood, Obama waded in immediately to caution against jumping to conclusions. Let the investigation continue he said. We wanted to know why he did it. And don't be disappointed if the subordinate white investigator came to a conclusion he did not know. Or dare not say it?
When Pastor Jones of the burn-the-koran fame threatened to burn many koran books unless the imam who wanted to build a mosque right next to the hallowed ground, moved his mosque elsewhere, the president's white subordinates made a mincemeat of him. Of course, Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf wouldn't budge, didn't budge. You know why? President Obama. The said Imam had been engaged by the state department officials (subordinates) to do repairing job (repair America's image in the eyes of the Muslim world) in the Middle East. It would be disastrous (argued by the imam) if the American government betrayed the imam by vitoeing his project. No way.
Not only Obama supported the building of the mosque there, but also turned his fury towards Pastor Jones, and reports said the administration's white subordinates who "sucked up" to the commander-in-chief made a short work the pastor, who would never be whole again - politically, socially or financially. Such was typical of Obama fury. Obama signature treatment to his foes. But only directed against...non-Muslims and Muslims with secular leaning, like those in Turkey. His help or compassion is reserved only for the Islamist Muslims. If Col. Qaddafi were Islamist and shouts Allahu Akbar every day President Obama won't touch him, and President Bashar al-Assad could be holidaying in cool England right at this moment. And his British-born wife would be shown respect she deserved when out shopping in London.
Ironic, isn't it? That just because President Obama wanted to bring back the glory for his ancestors' religion, a lot of people had to die. When attending the memorial service for the Forthoot shooting victims with the first lady, President Obama mumbled something like: incomprehensible. Just one word. What he meant by that nobody knows. He could do worse if he had wanted; like "This was nothing...it's just work stress violence." But he didn't. He's someone who knew better. And so did Time and the New York Times. Although Major Hassan repeatedly said he killed the poor soldiers in the name of jihad, the two news websites insisted not terrorism. When Major Hassan heard about that he insisted he's terrorist who had a change of heart - from a secular Muslim to, perhaps, Islamist Muslim. He frustrated the very friends (the two news websites) who wanted to protect him to a certain extend.
So when I saw the Boston Glob article, I didn't expect much. Typical of most western press, they don't like to thrust out their necks. They know if they don't have anything good to say about the Muslim Brotherhood, they shouldn't say anything at all. But in this article they criticized the treatment meted out to the MB-affiliated deposed president Mursi. They also laughed at the charge that Mursi once conspired with Hamas to break the law. How did they know Mursi was not capable of breaking any law. Did they believe the interim president was a liar? The editor seemed to have chosen sides. Why? To be in the good book...? Do you wish to know more?
