The following stories may fire your imagination, pique your interest. Some say 1MDB is Malaysia's Sovereign Wealth fund; to others they asked what wealth fund when its total capitalization is just One million ringgit? But, then again, if you think you can look down on the pet idea of the Malaysian prime minister, think again. His idea has the potential of turning the now world famous - or shall we say, infamous - 1Malaysia Development Berhad into a giant corporation you can ever imagine - even bigger than Bill Gate's Microsoft! At least, it could be, if the original course is stayed. It was supposed to inspire Malaysians to think big besides advance growth, according to its slogans screaming out of giant bill boards throughout the country. 'Backed' by the finance ministry who owns it - which means money will never be the problem - it can only succeed. But..it didn't. It failed! That's why it may have piqued many people's curiosity. How can a company flush with cash and can borrow any amount (billions) anytime could fail? Well, this may be in line with your thinking. People have seen since its inception - I mean after its name was changed in 1999 from Trengganu Investment Authority (TIA) to the present - it hasn't done any business! I have used present tense deliberately. It hasn't done any business yet. I mean if you are in business you need to make profit or find ways to make profit. Or close shop. Oh, I had heard about their filings of tax returns and hiring of a couple of internationally known auditors to sign off on their balance sheets; but these concerned only the company's borrowings and interests to be paid. Two massive bonds were issued to the tune of $7 billions. To buy up power plants. Again I want to say if you are in business to make money even investing in independent Power Plants, it should be done with the view to making a profit. The decision may be long term or short term, it doesn't matter, it has to make money, or no deal. May be they have done the right thing. Maybe luck was not on their side. Still, the amount is staggering. I didn't know having or managing so much money can be a problem! But many - especially the Malays - have not given up hope yet. Yes, may be the durians are just ripening; may be they need time and may fall soon!

Malaysia's Vision 2020

By:David Lang

Malaysia is supposed to be on its way to becoming a developed nation, by the year 2020. Will she make it (in less than five years -tick-tuck, tick-tuck)? There is no doubt the year 2020 is coming whether the country is ready or not, and if that will be the only requirement then Malaysia will attain that developed nation status on schedule. There is a question, though, Will Malaysia, or Malaysians, for that matter, be ready for that status as far as their affluence, quality of life's concern? Currently Malaysia's GNI per capita stood at US$10060. According to the World Bank high income economies are those with GNI per capita of US$12,745. And until Malaysians earn much more to be there, the developed nation status may not be achieved even by the year 2020. The futility of declaring a country a high income country when it's not, achieves nothing. May be even counter-productive; it lulls the country into false sense of success and premature celebration. Don't forget China reportedly overtook Japan as the world's second largest economy, but in actual fact China's citizens' ca pita income is a fraction of the incomes of the Japanese who earn $37,000. Chinese incomes range from $13,000. China's gross domestic product, taken as a whole, may beat Japan's, but in term of quality of life, and GNI per capita income, the criteria for a developed nation status, China still has a lot of catching up to do. That's why China still qualifies as recipient of Japan's economic aid meant for developing countries. Comparing with the Chinese per capita domestic product, Malaysia is even worse off. Unless the government bucks up and rushes to create more wealth for its citizens, the Vision 2020 dream may remain just that ..a dream.

'MCA go home' vs 'Where was DAP 13 years ago?' at Jonker Walk

'MCA go home' vs 'Where was DAP 13 years ago?' at Jonker Walk
What?! Gan qualified his being there as a survey, not to protest? Let alone to lead the protest? Did Mr. Gan Tian Loo realize that the MCA protest carries more weight than DAP protest many times over. The state government, being UMNO-led government, considers the DAP as the opposition working hand-in-hand with PAS and PKR to oust UMNO from power, rescinding the directive on the request from DAP leaders will make the party even more popular. I thought, at first, here come the MCA, finally to do what it's supposed to do. Then the expected  happened. He got cold feet. The reporter who covered the protest reported Gan was suddenly cautious . He was like ..."I'm here to lend my support to..the .. no, wait! I am not here to support the traders - but just to do a quick survey! But I am glad to be standing here with the protesters but reporters, please put it down in black and white I am not, I repeat, am not here as part of the protest. This is the reason the MCA was shunned, I mean has been shunned by the Chinese. They do not represent the Chinese anymore. They cannot get things done anymore unlike in the old days. Gan admitted his meeting with the chief minister was fruitless, but would keep trying. Keep trying for what? He should stop embarrassing the MCA and reducing its credibility further by continuing to beg despite being rebuffed earlier. Again, this proved that the Malaysian Chinese Association has really completely lost its usefulness. If a small matter like Jonker Walk closure was beyond its power then, that 's it.

China A Superpower?

China Can't Boast Of Chengdu Stealth Fighter It Has Never Been Tested! Checked.

By David Lang

May 28, 2017 Updated Today: December 09, 2017

If there is the time to confront China over its expansionist designs with scant regards for others' rights, it's now. China's military powwer is limited compared to the US power, and they know that. That's the reason it didn't explode in anger at Rex Tillerson threat to disallow China's access to South China Sea islands it had annexed unilaterally and clandestinely over the last few months. China also had to resort to amplifying its military might..to discourage its foes - by engaging pliable Western journalists or analysts to boost its "formidable military powers." This is the phrase that Western journalists paid to do their jobs used to exaggerate China's military power. If anyone want to know the truth about China about anything, turn to China Censored - a website set up purposely to focus on China.

However, even China itself knows there is much limit to its armed forces capability. It openly sent an ICBM missiles into space to allegedly pulverized its own satellite in recent past to prove to its foes what it can do to its enemies.

But chest-thumping and asking bought western journalists to exaggerate its power will not guarantee its success in real battle, except battle of the minds which it had won hands down vs the US under President Barack Obama, including countries such as Australia and New Zealand.

During his first term as US commander-in-chief, Obama openly displayed his inexperience and cowardice to the world when he rolled back agreements to station ballistic missiles in Poland and other Eastern European states which George W. Bush had painstakingly negotiated to secure, just like that just because the Russians were not happy and bluffing to restart heavy bombers patrol of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.
This did not go unnoticed by powers in Beijing especially.

Emboldened by Obama's weak leadership, China did the unthinkable to US far-flung US naval power to force it to retreat. When S. Korea and the US tried to start annual naval exercise in the international waters near China which they have been doing for decades, China ordered the two countries to hold their excercise elsewhere, and they obeyed.
From that day onward, China became defacto sole super power of the world replacing the US, in the mind at least.

China after tasting that super power feeling had never looked back until today. It, however, knew its superiority was in the mind only, faked if you will, for it was not backed by superior weapon systems like the US's. It may have benefited somewhat from purchasing Israeli technology; but Israel would not be foolish to leak to the Chinese secrets that could undermine their safety in the unlikely event China embraces the Palestinian side.
The fact that China didn't spring to Israeli help in the UN recently when resolution banning new settlements were allowed to be passed by the US, its closest ally in the Middle East - proved China didn't benefit greatly from technology transfer by the Israeli authorities.

Nevertheless, China has come a long way from the time when it had to depend on Russian help even to build some fighter planes or bombers. Now it can boast of stealth fighters comparable the US's best, which no doubt was suspected of coming about due to blue-print spirited out of the US by Oversea Chinese who wanted to help their motherland. Besides, China is also nuclear-armed and possesses a three-million army vs US' 2.5 million), and an infant navy of moderate size with one air-craft carrier.

China Is Expected to Be Busy Protecting Its Sole Carrier From Being Sunk!

Therefore, if China was expected to win in an unlikely conflict between China and the US, it would only do it psychologically. If hypothetically history is repeated and Obama resumes his post of president for the third term, yes, China would prevail or give the US (under Obama, of course) a run for its money.

Realistically, and this is bad news for China and its people, in a conventional or nuclear wars China based on its pesent strength will be no match for resurgent America especially fired up by Donald Trump.

Therefore, China after recovering from the startle of rhetoric of the new commander-in-chief, sprang into action to search for answers to the new dawn of American-Chinese relations. After it appeared that they had realized their clandestine and illegal seizure of land/sea in the South China Sea had been exposed, coupled with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson' warning that China must be told to stop its artificial island building and that its future access to those islands it built also be disallowed, Chinese leaders of all levels and men and women in the streets as well as the media, especially the Global Times, devoted the whole month to chastising President-elect Trump, and railed against the idea that they stole other people's land. As part of psychological war, they boasted China as a superpower, nuclear-armed, and has over-whelming military force to defeat any foes. To back up their claims, they staged almost daily naval exercises with J-20 stealth fighters and its sole aircraft-carrier Liaoning in full display to flaunt their awesome power!

According to western reporters who witness the display of its might, China has a long way to go before it could match up with the US. The only battle China for the present and for the near future, can win is psychological one. Although it may have three millions People's Liberation Front army against the US's 2.5 million, America can gain air superiority quickly and once that is achieved, China's sole carrier could be sunk early in the battle - putting paid to the much hyped J-20 stealth fighter. Analysts opined China should not base their strength on J-20 as it has yet to be tested in real fight!

According to western analyst not paid to write, China's artificial islands in the South China Sea could be destroyed in minutes if the US makes use of its carrier task force USS Carl Vinson now stationed in the area!

So the Chinese side need to warn Trump against humiliating President Xi!

The idea that President Xi could be humiliated which could precipitate his toppling in China which Xi would do his all to prevent. So President Trump should scale down his expectation from President Xi or he will be disappointed.

Don't forget the events in the 2nd world war when America was not well-armed as it was not at wars with any country then, and was unprepared when Japan launched a surprise attack on Perl Harbor and destroyed most of its best warships - but was able to arm itself easily and in no time to take the fight to Japan's shore and soundly defeated it.

The reality is unmistakable - China can only bluff as far as the US is concerned. May be that's the intent of China to bluff to deter its foes while secretly it rushes to modernize its armed forces and weapon systems to make it on par with the US'.

The reality is therefore if Trump wants to contains China without having to go to a bruising war, it had to be done before China becomes stronger, which is: now! With one carrier China lacks air superiority which it crucially needs to protect its warships. China may use human power to try to swim to detonate torpedo against American warships; but with air power the US could kill millions in just one day if it adopted the same way NATO did not too long ago to bomb Libya back to utter defeat.

The only way China could survive is to resort to the UN resolution to force a ceasefire. But it's up to President Trump how the US would respond to request for cessation of hostilities. Then, he may even demand that China drop its objection to restoring Taiwan's membership to the UN as a full veto-holding nation.

China Bluffed Its Way With President Trump

China's Dilemma - It Needs Desperately To Exert Its Power In Order To Make The So-called Nine Dash Lines boundary Round South China Sea Islands Respected - At Least By Fellow Claimants, the South East Asian nations, If Not The US, Which Vehemently Opposed it and called China's Clandestine Annexation Of The Same. But To Do So It's Going To Need To Flex Some Muscles Both Economically And Militarily. The Former Would Pose No Problem For China But For The Later It Needs To Showcase A few Carriers and Proven Stealth Fighters, Which At The Moment It Doesn't Have.!

By David Lang

May 28, 2017 Updated Today: December 13, 2017

China is in dilemma. On the one hand they are greedy for more land (who aren't, for that matter?) - but at some point they do realize the wisdom of not taking what don't belong to them in the first place. Checked.

They claimed the South China Sea areas including any rocks or islands, atolls almost all of them, belonged to them from ancient time - arguing, sic, that's why it's called China Seas (South China Sea)!

To make it more believable, China went on to unilaterally draw the so-called nine dash lines engulfing almost the whole of the area which other South East Asian countries also laid claims to.

Now that their nine dash lines have been more or less tolerated by the other claimants, who probably have no choice but were forced to keep quiet, for various unknown reasons, for sometime now during the hiatus of the US involvement and patrol, for if they opposed China on their own it would come hard on them in a swift move! For members of the South East Asian nations, they have lost much of their respectability or clout due to disunity. Certain members, if not all, have been neutralized by China's wellknown loan trap. Those who took loans from China regretted they did, forever. And Increasingly of late the Chinese began to behave like the place actually belonged to them! Checked.

The media like the Global Times, which represents the voice of the CPOC (Communist Party of China), the de facto ruler of the country, and countless of analysts and university professors, pushed back in recent weeks against President Trump's rhetoric against China's illegal artificial island building in South China Seas after Secretary of State Rex Tillerson cautioned that China should stop trying to grab land (areas) that didn't belong to them through clandestine artificial island building as it's futile, he says, as the US won't recognize it and may even prevent China from accessing the islands it's building!

Whether Tillerson meant to deter China (like the Obama administration and the Bush administration before that did successfully to contain China) from continuing with its illegal act, or just to talk tough or be seen as tough to senators of both sides of the aisle..to coax them into confirming his appointment by President Trump, it's hard to tell.

But to the Chinese it's a serious matter - deadly serious! Never before have they worried so much about someone turning up to throw a spanner into their clandestine schemes. They're worried Trump could turn out to be more detrimental to China's interests than President Obama and even President George W. Bush put together. The entire Chinese nation erupted into hysteria, vowing they won't back down in the dispute as China's building the islands in its own territories - no one else's!

If Trump wants to stop China, they say in unison, which is a major nuclear power, from accessing its own territories, Trump would have to start a war!

But China knows, however, Washington looms as the single greatest danger to deny them the success of their scheme of land grab, given that China is no match for the US in military firepower for many years to come. Checked.

Therefore, they had to come up with several ideas how to deal with President Trump - how to neutralize him, if you will.

Hence they had no choice but to deploy bullying tactics that it (China) could pulverize satellites in space which it did (to its own) not too long ago to prove to the world and America that China can knockout your satellites, which, of course, became worrisome for President Obama who by nature was not a fearless world leader like President Bush. So, during the 8 years of his administration China never had it so good; its demands Washington must not build or acquire too many offensive weapons which China views as threat to its deterrence, were more or less acquiesced by President Obama (who's blamed for the decline in the fire-power of the US armed forces). But the bad news is a US president could only serve a maximum of 2 terms - 8 years! So; China's joy was short-lived.

When Donald J.Trump became president he alarmed China by his uncompromising stands over almost everything. Hence The South China Morning Post and The Global Times, the leading media in China, promoted the idea of a summit between President Xi Jinping and President Trump. When Trump was cool towards the idea it made the whole nation of China to long and work for the summit to take place, at all costs. The South China Morning Post especially was so desperate it went on to even buy advertising spaces in British newspapers to push the idea. They even started the clock ticking by predicting that Trump would agree to the summit soon ..or next month..or next week!

China was so confident in their president's power of persuasion or neutralization to get Trump on their side, to neutralize him they fought hard to make the summit take place. And their confidence in President Xi Yinping was not misplaced. He won praises from President Trump at the end of the visit (summit) when the US president hosted him at his resort Mar-a-Lago in Florida. China the whole nation sighed a relief.

I foresaw the likely outcome of a summit between President Trump and President Xi and was worried, and I tweeted to President Trump repeatedly to be careful ..to not rush into a summit with this China's killer negotiator. I told him (Trump) it's better to wait and learn more about China's agendas and Xi's tactics. That there's no way President Xi would give any concessions save to say he would consider, or just think about it, that's all - as doing so will degrade his position or influence vis-a-vis with his rivals back home in China. Which means if President Xi did concede anything to President Trump over Taiwan, South China Sea claim or US factories operating in China, it means he lied.

But my tweets were ignored by President Trump..my sincere advice and opinions - intended for the good of America - fell on deaf ears! President Trump laid a red carpet welcome to President Xi Jinping and Mrs. Xi at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. The sumptuous state banquet for the VIP couple was complete with a special performance by none other than Ivanka's daughter Arabella Rose Kusher who speaks fluent Mandarin!

The intended effect of Arabella's performance not only moved the Chinese state guests to feel more welcome but also the grandfather of the little girl! For after the banquet was over President Trump became a changed man, more amenable to President Xi as though Xi just agreed to forgive half of American debt to China! Missing were his rhetoric against China. He had agreed to respect China as the sole representative of all China, meaning 1-China policy continues; China is no more currency manipulator and no more plays an active role against China in the South China Sea. Instead he proposed to be a mediator between China and other claimant countries! This led to people to view Trump's performance vis-a-vis China over these three issues as worse than Obama's!

Although Obama was viewed as not a fearless leader when dealing with Chinese leaders, he seldom met with Chinese leaders such as Xi Jinping so limited the damage to America through slick tricks of Chinese leaders. No doubt President Obama was presumed rather amenable toward Chinese leaders, at least he did not give in to China over the three important issues mentioned above for 8 years. But Trump took just slightly over a year to give all the three concessions away without demanding in return any concessions from China.

So, my prediction that it served no purpose to rush to have a summit with the Chinese president came true.

In conclusion, China - or shall we say Xi - met and discussed with Trump and came away from that talk as planned: never compromise on the three important issues which Chinese leaders termed core-issues on which no Chinese leaders worth his salt would dare to compromise.

So never underestimate China or Chinese intelligence and cunning for that matter. It may not have superpower might militarily - at least not yet - China makes up for that by having lots of money with which it could use to loan-trap small countries in South East Asia to cause them to turn away from Washington's influence. And don't expect China to play second fiddle militarily to America for long too. China never shies away from saying that it hopes to overtake the USA both militarily and economically eventually, if not soon, and won't rest on its laurels until it does.checked.
