China is in dilemma. On the one hand they are greedy for more land (who aren't, for that matter?) - but at some
point they do realize the wisdom of not taking what don't belong to them in the first place. Checked.
They claimed the South China Sea areas including any rocks or islands, atolls almost all of them, belonged to
them from ancient time - arguing, sic, that's why it's called China Seas (South China Sea)!
To make it more believable, China went on to unilaterally draw the so-called nine dash lines engulfing almost
the whole of the area which other South East Asian countries also laid claims to.
Now that their nine dash lines have been more or less tolerated by the other claimants, who probably have no
choice but were forced to keep quiet, for various unknown reasons, for sometime now during the hiatus of the US
involvement and patrol, for if they opposed China on their own it would come hard on them in a swift move! For
members of the South East Asian nations, they have lost much of their respectability or clout due to disunity.
Certain members, if not all, have been neutralized by China's wellknown loan trap. Those who took loans from China
regretted they did, forever. And Increasingly of late the Chinese began to behave like the place actually belonged
to them! Checked.
The media like the Global Times, which represents the voice of the CPOC (Communist Party of China), the de facto
ruler of the country, and countless of analysts and university professors, pushed back in recent weeks against
President Trump's rhetoric against China's illegal artificial island building in South China Seas after Secretary
of State Rex Tillerson cautioned that China should stop trying to grab land (areas) that didn't belong to them
through clandestine artificial island building as it's futile, he says, as the US won't recognize it and may even
prevent China from accessing the islands it's building!
Whether Tillerson meant to deter China (like the Obama administration and the Bush administration before that
did successfully to contain China) from continuing with its illegal act, or just to talk tough or be seen as tough
to senators of both sides of the aisle..to coax them into confirming his appointment by President Trump, it's hard to
tell.
But to the Chinese it's a serious matter - deadly serious! Never before have they worried so much about
someone turning up to throw a spanner into their clandestine schemes. They're worried Trump could turn out to be
more detrimental to China's interests than President Obama and even President George W. Bush put together. The
entire Chinese nation erupted into hysteria, vowing they won't back down in the dispute as China's building the islands
in its own territories - no one else's!
If Trump wants to stop China, they say in unison, which is a major
nuclear power, from accessing its own territories, Trump would have to start a war!
But China knows, however, Washington looms as the single greatest danger to deny them the success of their
scheme of land grab, given that China is no match for the US in military firepower for many years to come.
Checked.
Therefore, they had to come up with several ideas how to deal with President Trump - how to neutralize him, if you will.
Hence they had no choice but to deploy bullying tactics that it (China) could pulverize satellites in space
which it did (to its own) not too long ago to prove to the world and America that China can knockout your
satellites, which, of course, became worrisome for President Obama who by nature was not a fearless world leader
like President Bush.
So, during the 8 years of his administration China never had it so good; its demands Washington must not build or
acquire too many offensive weapons which China views as threat to its deterrence, were more or less acquiesced by
President Obama (who's blamed for the decline in the fire-power of the US armed forces). But the bad news is a US
president could only serve a maximum of 2 terms - 8 years! So; China's joy was short-lived.
When Donald J.Trump became president he alarmed China by his uncompromising stands over almost everything.
Hence The South China Morning Post and The Global Times, the leading media in China, promoted the idea of a summit
between President Xi Jinping and President Trump. When Trump was cool towards the idea it made the whole nation of
China to long and work for the summit to take place, at all costs. The South China Morning Post especially was so desperate it
went on to even buy advertising spaces in British newspapers to push the idea. They even started the clock ticking by predicting
that Trump would agree to the summit soon ..or next month..or next week!
China was so confident in their president's power of persuasion or neutralization to get Trump on their
side, to neutralize him they fought hard to make the summit take place. And their confidence in President Xi Yinping
was not misplaced. He won praises from President Trump at the end of the visit (summit) when the US president hosted him at his
resort Mar-a-Lago in Florida. China the whole nation sighed a relief.
I foresaw the likely outcome of a summit between President Trump and President Xi and was worried, and I
tweeted to President Trump repeatedly to be careful ..to not rush into a summit with this China's killer negotiator. I told him
(Trump) it's better to wait and learn more about China's agendas and Xi's tactics. That there's no way President Xi
would give any concessions save to say he would consider, or just think about it, that's all - as doing so will degrade his position or influence
vis-a-vis with his rivals back home in China. Which means if President Xi did concede anything to President Trump over Taiwan, South China Sea
claim or US factories operating in China, it means he lied.
But my tweets were ignored by President Trump..my sincere advice and opinions - intended for the good of
America - fell on deaf ears! President Trump laid a red carpet welcome to President Xi Jinping and Mrs. Xi at his
Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. The sumptuous state banquet for the VIP couple was complete with a special performance
by none other than Ivanka's daughter Arabella Rose Kusher who speaks fluent Mandarin!
The intended effect of Arabella's performance not only moved the Chinese state guests to feel more welcome but
also the grandfather of the little girl! For after the banquet was over President Trump became a changed man, more
amenable to President Xi as though Xi just agreed to forgive half of American debt to China! Missing were his
rhetoric against China. He had agreed to respect China as the sole representative of all China, meaning 1-China
policy continues; China is no more currency manipulator and no more plays an active role against China in the South
China Sea. Instead he proposed to be a mediator between China and other claimant countries! This led to people to
view Trump's performance vis-a-vis China over these three issues as worse than Obama's!
Although Obama was viewed as not a fearless leader when dealing with Chinese leaders, he seldom met with
Chinese leaders such as Xi Jinping so limited the damage to America through slick tricks of Chinese leaders. No
doubt President Obama was presumed rather amenable toward Chinese leaders, at least he did not give in to China over
the three important issues mentioned above for 8 years. But Trump took just slightly over a year to give all the
three concessions away without demanding in return any concessions from China.
So, my prediction that it served no purpose to rush to have a summit with the Chinese president came true.
In conclusion, China - or shall we say Xi - met and discussed with Trump and came away from that talk as
planned: never compromise on the three important issues which Chinese leaders termed core-issues on which no Chinese
leaders worth his salt would dare to compromise.
So never underestimate China or Chinese intelligence and cunning for that matter. It may not have
superpower might militarily - at least not yet - China makes up for that by having lots of money with which it could
use to loan-trap small countries in South East Asia to cause them to turn away from Washington's influence. And
don't expect China to play second fiddle militarily to America for long too. China never shies away from saying that
it hopes to overtake the USA both militarily and economically eventually, if not soon, and won't rest on its laurels
until it does.checked.
