The following stories may fire your imagination, pique your interest. Some say 1MDB is Malaysia's Sovereign Wealth fund; to others they asked what wealth fund when its total capitalization is just One million ringgit? But, then again, if you think you can look down on the pet idea of the Malaysian prime minister, think again. His idea has the potential of turning the now world famous - or shall we say, infamous - 1Malaysia Development Berhad into a giant corporation you can ever imagine - even bigger than Bill Gate's Microsoft! At least, it could be, if the original course is stayed. It was supposed to inspire Malaysians to think big besides advance growth, according to its slogans screaming out of giant bill boards throughout the country. 'Backed' by the finance ministry who owns it - which means money will never be the problem - it can only succeed. But..it didn't. It failed! That's why it may have piqued many people's curiosity. How can a company flush with cash and can borrow any amount (billions) anytime could fail? Well, this may be in line with your thinking. People have seen since its inception - I mean after its name was changed in 1999 from Trengganu Investment Authority (TIA) to the present - it hasn't done any business! I have used present tense deliberately. It hasn't done any business yet. I mean if you are in business you need to make profit or find ways to make profit. Or close shop. Oh, I had heard about their filings of tax returns and hiring of a couple of internationally known auditors to sign off on their balance sheets; but these concerned only the company's borrowings and interests to be paid. Two massive bonds were issued to the tune of $7 billions. To buy up power plants. Again I want to say if you are in business to make money even investing in independent Power Plants, it should be done with the view to making a profit. The decision may be long term or short term, it doesn't matter, it has to make money, or no deal. May be they have done the right thing. Maybe luck was not on their side. Still, the amount is staggering. I didn't know having or managing so much money can be a problem! But many - especially the Malays - have not given up hope yet. Yes, may be the durians are just ripening; may be they need time and may fall soon!

Malaysia's Vision 2020

By:David Lang

Malaysia is supposed to be on its way to becoming a developed nation, by the year 2020. Will she make it (in less than five years -tick-tuck, tick-tuck)? There is no doubt the year 2020 is coming whether the country is ready or not, and if that will be the only requirement then Malaysia will attain that developed nation status on schedule. There is a question, though, Will Malaysia, or Malaysians, for that matter, be ready for that status as far as their affluence, quality of life's concern? Currently Malaysia's GNI per capita stood at US$10060. According to the World Bank high income economies are those with GNI per capita of US$12,745. And until Malaysians earn much more to be there, the developed nation status may not be achieved even by the year 2020. The futility of declaring a country a high income country when it's not, achieves nothing. May be even counter-productive; it lulls the country into false sense of success and premature celebration. Don't forget China reportedly overtook Japan as the world's second largest economy, but in actual fact China's citizens' ca pita income is a fraction of the incomes of the Japanese who earn $37,000. Chinese incomes range from $13,000. China's gross domestic product, taken as a whole, may beat Japan's, but in term of quality of life, and GNI per capita income, the criteria for a developed nation status, China still has a lot of catching up to do. That's why China still qualifies as recipient of Japan's economic aid meant for developing countries. Comparing with the Chinese per capita domestic product, Malaysia is even worse off. Unless the government bucks up and rushes to create more wealth for its citizens, the Vision 2020 dream may remain just that ..a dream.

'MCA go home' vs 'Where was DAP 13 years ago?' at Jonker Walk

'MCA go home' vs 'Where was DAP 13 years ago?' at Jonker Walk
What?! Gan qualified his being there as a survey, not to protest? Let alone to lead the protest? Did Mr. Gan Tian Loo realize that the MCA protest carries more weight than DAP protest many times over. The state government, being UMNO-led government, considers the DAP as the opposition working hand-in-hand with PAS and PKR to oust UMNO from power, rescinding the directive on the request from DAP leaders will make the party even more popular. I thought, at first, here come the MCA, finally to do what it's supposed to do. Then the expected  happened. He got cold feet. The reporter who covered the protest reported Gan was suddenly cautious . He was like ..."I'm here to lend my support to..the .. no, wait! I am not here to support the traders - but just to do a quick survey! But I am glad to be standing here with the protesters but reporters, please put it down in black and white I am not, I repeat, am not here as part of the protest. This is the reason the MCA was shunned, I mean has been shunned by the Chinese. They do not represent the Chinese anymore. They cannot get things done anymore unlike in the old days. Gan admitted his meeting with the chief minister was fruitless, but would keep trying. Keep trying for what? He should stop embarrassing the MCA and reducing its credibility further by continuing to beg despite being rebuffed earlier. Again, this proved that the Malaysian Chinese Association has really completely lost its usefulness. If a small matter like Jonker Walk closure was beyond its power then, that 's it.

Muyyidin Yasin Unintentionally Made Ismail Sabri The 9th Prime Minister!

Muyiddin Yasin And Ismail Sabri The Luckiest Men Alive

Any way you look at it the MCA is a big let-down - it resembles a headless chicken! Why don't they keep mum - once they open their mouths what come out is always a big let-down! The MCA had come a long way since its heyday in the distant years. Once, it's the party of choice for the Chinese community and Umno's equal partner, no less.

For example, in the old days - when the MCA hadn't become Umno's little brother and Umno MCA's big brother - if, say, Umno leaders wanted to contest in seats held traditionally by MCA, they didn't just grab them (like the present day modus operandi) but would negotiate with their BN partner's leaders first. And equal Umno seats would be given to the MCA in return.

The MCA of the old days was well respected by all including, of course, Umno. These good old days lasted until the tenures of Ling Lion Sik and Ong Kah Ting. Correct me if I am wrong, the fortune of the MCA has been on the free-fall sine then.

In the good old days the MCA never faced any challenge from any quarters didn't - it's the sole tiger on the hill. The DAP tried all they could but never succeeded in breaking through until after the presidency of Datuk Seri Ong Kah Ting.

Why the MCA became what it's today? What caused it (the decline?) The answer: nothing in this world lasts. Umno itself had fallen! Again, its falling didn't last - as long as its tormentor (Tun Mahathir Bin Mohamad) would have liked, and it's now picking up the pieces again.

No, Ismail Sabri was not responsible for reviving Umno - he was just a man who happened to be at the right place and time - but in fact, Tun Mahathir! If he didn't have an agenda to downsize the DAP and prevent Anwar from becoming prime minister - hitting two birds with one stone, if you will - PH could still be ruling Malaysia until today, while Anwar would have achieved his goal of becoming prime minister. Checked

When Tun Mahathir decided to resign he actually gambled and ...lost; he not only lost the premiership which was given to him as a reward for helping to oust Umno from power, and for which Anwar Ibrahim had patiently waiting in the wings! In fact, all the ills hectoring Malaysia now can be traced back to one man - Tun Mahathir! In his heyday Tun was unstoppable. He even dared to toy with the Royalty's powers, and successfully curbed them! And the rest as they say is history.

Due to Tun, two men became what they had no chance of becoming through their own steams - prime minister (of Malaysia). Muyiddin

got his chance when Tun didn't oppose (or put a stop to) the former's intention to work with kleptocratic Umno leaders when they met at his or Muyyidin's resident before the Sheraton Move. His apparent blessing to Muyyidin to do as he pleased - including keeping silent on Azmin's moves, for a reason - caused the demise of PH government, everyone knows. Tun thought he had everything figured out - resigning and was reappointed as acting prime minister ... which according to AG then Tommy Thomas, he had everlasting tenure as long as he never resigned and would have full powers, no less. But Muyiddin moved to strip him (Tun) of chairmanship of Bersatu where his political power including the right to become PM of Malaysia sprang from - causing the words of Tommy Thomas that he could be acting prime minister as long as he wished and had full authority as prime minster, no less, to be redundant. The king then stepped in to appoint Muyiddin Yasin as the 8th prime minister

In plain English, Ismail Sabri didn't earn or deserve his present position but still, he got it courtesy of Muyiddin his hands being forced by Zahid Hamidi.

In the end, IS had two persons to thank for his unexpected luck (in landing the plumpest job of the century! How can IS repay Muyiddin and Zahid? Or will he, remain to be seen. Checked. So far, he's not repaying anything to PH leaders for the MOU where whose supporters - namely non-Muslims - have been short-changed by IS's finance minister who earmarked as good as nothing or peanuts for them in his budget! So far, however, there was no adverse reaction from its paramount leader Anwar Ibrahim. Checked.

Tun Believes He's Better Than All And Sundry!

Tun Believes He's Better Than All And Sundry

November 5, 2021 Updated Today:November 5, 2021

Due to Dr Mahathir being at its helm Malaysia is attempting to punch above its weight, or pretending to be heftier than its actual size, if you will, and wants to engage toe-to-toe like a fight in the Octagon with India. His bellicose statements and those made by his foreign minister belie the true strength behind the 'bring it on' stance towards India.

Whether economically or militarily Malaysia should never be compared with India.

Maybe he's unhappy with India because of the Hindu majority race. And Muslims being a minority race considered oppressed (by the majority)

Having descended from India himself through his father, he very much feels their pain and fully sympathizes with Zakar Naik the Indian preacher.

Tun doesn't care why the fugitive preacher is persona non grata in Britain the country renown for its going the extra mile to help Muslims - what he cares about is Zakar Naik is a Muslim, and a preacher at that, he can in his eyes do no wrong! Checked.

PH foreign minister then knows who will lose the slugfest - Malaysia.

The trouble was the prime minister likes to view himself as superior to other world leaders whom he doesn't hesitate to call them names or sarcastically talk about them behind their backs (he always said he could never deal with President Trump because the latter is 'mercurial!' And he thought India was equal with Malaysia or vice versa. He even dared to tell reporters Prime minister Modi never brought up the extradition of the fugitive Indian Muslim preacher from Malaysia during their meeting, but later relented to, er, echo on his foreign minister's qualifying that Prime minister Modi did mention Zakar Naik but in passing only!

This could be due to his being roped in by Malaysians to be prime minister, again for the second time, to purportedly fix Malaysia which had allegedly been laid waste by former prime minister Najib Razak.

The exuberant praises by the grateful Malaysians for helping to the country of Najib's government could have gone to his head.

You see, Tun Mahathir likes to believe he's more educated and capable than other leaders of the world, making him believe he is indispensable, always knows best about everything, and bests all other leaders in term of the length of being in power, and what's more, holds the record as the one and only leader of a country who became its prime minister twice, the country that he helms therefore should be respected as equal in quality rather than in quantity.

Well, according to the Christians they don't. They claim the word, of Arab origin, even predated Islam. Most people through out the world readily agree with that. But ...not so fast ... said the Muslims ... in Malaysia.

Everyone seems to agree that Malay Muslims tend to utter the word Allah a lot in their daily lives, especially during prayers. And so do other Muslims of other countries, for that matter. But does that mean the Muslims, due to their rather extensive use of the term, can claim exclusive use of the word to refer to their God?

This question is and has been raging in the minds and of course, the mass media of Malaysian Muslims and Non-Muslims - especially Roman Catholic Christians for a while now.

Recently the Malaysian court of appeal, higher than the high court, ruled that the word Allah was not the integral part of Christianity or Christians' lives, and therefor should only be used by the Muslims. This despite the fact that Justice Lau Bee Lian of the high court had earlier adjudged that anyone can freely use the word to refer to their God and moved to declare null and void the Malaysian Home Minister's ban imposed on the Catholic church of Kuala Lumpur's weekly news magazine, Herald. The high court judge avoided criticisms because according to her written judgement, she came to her judgment after much research. Because of her water-tight reasoning, no one dared to voice their disagreement - none at all.

But according to media reports the leading judge of the 3-judge bench, who claimed the word Allah was not an integral part of Christianity and therefor must stop using it in print or verbally forthwith, admitted he only did a quick research through Google. Of course the judgement was not well received in Malaysia and even the world over. But despite criticisms and protests, everyone knew there was no choice but to respect the court decision, flawed or not. Except for Bumiputra Christians in Borneo states of Sabah and Sarawak. These natives and their politicians of both sides of the political aisle expressed dismay, disappointment and disbelief over what had happened, and declared that they would continue to use the Allah word as they have been doing for so long. The government which originally took the initiative to appeal the high court judgement and won, realized it could backfire against the Barisan Nasional coalition government which comprised quite a large block of MPs from the two states, the so-called fixed deposit (vote bank) to shore up the government, swiftly weighed in to assure Sabahans and Sarawakians that they could continue to use the Allah word, either in print or verbally, as before. No change.

Ministers, some of whom were Christian, and even the prime minister reassuringly pointed to the earlier 10-point agreement between Putrajaya and the Catholic church allowing Christians, especially the Eastern Malaysians, to use, import, and or print locally the Bibles or other native religious holy books ... without restriction. And that was that? Done and dusted?

Unfortunately not, if judged by the action of the Home Ministry to confiscate 2000 copies of the Catholic Weekly, Herald a few days ago. According to newspaper reports, the authorities were still at the time of this writing, silent on why the publication which's lawfully licensed was prevented from entering Sabah.

Until the prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who has the absolute powers to decide on the matter and all matters in Malaysia, put his foot down, expect more similar news (or controversies).
