The following stories may fire your imagination, pique your interest. Some say 1MDB is Malaysia's Sovereign Wealth fund; to others they asked what wealth fund when its total capitalization is just One million ringgit? But, then again, if you think you can look down on the pet idea of the Malaysian prime minister, think again. His idea has the potential of turning the now world famous - or shall we say, infamous - 1Malaysia Development Berhad into a giant corporation you can ever imagine - even bigger than Bill Gate's Microsoft! At least, it could be, if the original course is stayed. It was supposed to inspire Malaysians to think big besides advance growth, according to its slogans screaming out of giant bill boards throughout the country. 'Backed' by the finance ministry who owns it - which means money will never be the problem - it can only succeed. But..it didn't. It failed! That's why it may have piqued many people's curiosity. How can a company flush with cash and can borrow any amount (billions) anytime could fail? Well, this may be in line with your thinking. People have seen since its inception - I mean after its name was changed in 1999 from Trengganu Investment Authority (TIA) to the present - it hasn't done any business! I have used present tense deliberately. It hasn't done any business yet. I mean if you are in business you need to make profit or find ways to make profit. Or close shop. Oh, I had heard about their filings of tax returns and hiring of a couple of internationally known auditors to sign off on their balance sheets; but these concerned only the company's borrowings and interests to be paid. Two massive bonds were issued to the tune of $7 billions. To buy up power plants. Again I want to say if you are in business to make money even investing in independent Power Plants, it should be done with the view to making a profit. The decision may be long term or short term, it doesn't matter, it has to make money, or no deal. May be they have done the right thing. Maybe luck was not on their side. Still, the amount is staggering. I didn't know having or managing so much money can be a problem! But many - especially the Malays - have not given up hope yet. Yes, may be the durians are just ripening; may be they need time and may fall soon!

Malaysia's Vision 2020

By:David Lang

Malaysia is supposed to be on its way to becoming a developed nation, by the year 2020. Will she make it (in less than five years -tick-tuck, tick-tuck)? There is no doubt the year 2020 is coming whether the country is ready or not, and if that will be the only requirement then Malaysia will attain that developed nation status on schedule. There is a question, though, Will Malaysia, or Malaysians, for that matter, be ready for that status as far as their affluence, quality of life's concern? Currently Malaysia's GNI per capita stood at US$10060. According to the World Bank high income economies are those with GNI per capita of US$12,745. And until Malaysians earn much more to be there, the developed nation status may not be achieved even by the year 2020. The futility of declaring a country a high income country when it's not, achieves nothing. May be even counter-productive; it lulls the country into false sense of success and premature celebration. Don't forget China reportedly overtook Japan as the world's second largest economy, but in actual fact China's citizens' ca pita income is a fraction of the incomes of the Japanese who earn $37,000. Chinese incomes range from $13,000. China's gross domestic product, taken as a whole, may beat Japan's, but in term of quality of life, and GNI per capita income, the criteria for a developed nation status, China still has a lot of catching up to do. That's why China still qualifies as recipient of Japan's economic aid meant for developing countries. Comparing with the Chinese per capita domestic product, Malaysia is even worse off. Unless the government bucks up and rushes to create more wealth for its citizens, the Vision 2020 dream may remain just that ..a dream.

'MCA go home' vs 'Where was DAP 13 years ago?' at Jonker Walk

'MCA go home' vs 'Where was DAP 13 years ago?' at Jonker Walk
What?! Gan qualified his being there as a survey, not to protest? Let alone to lead the protest? Did Mr. Gan Tian Loo realize that the MCA protest carries more weight than DAP protest many times over. The state government, being UMNO-led government, considers the DAP as the opposition working hand-in-hand with PAS and PKR to oust UMNO from power, rescinding the directive on the request from DAP leaders will make the party even more popular. I thought, at first, here come the MCA, finally to do what it's supposed to do. Then the expected  happened. He got cold feet. The reporter who covered the protest reported Gan was suddenly cautious . He was like ..."I'm here to lend my support to..the .. no, wait! I am not here to support the traders - but just to do a quick survey! But I am glad to be standing here with the protesters but reporters, please put it down in black and white I am not, I repeat, am not here as part of the protest. This is the reason the MCA was shunned, I mean has been shunned by the Chinese. They do not represent the Chinese anymore. They cannot get things done anymore unlike in the old days. Gan admitted his meeting with the chief minister was fruitless, but would keep trying. Keep trying for what? He should stop embarrassing the MCA and reducing its credibility further by continuing to beg despite being rebuffed earlier. Again, this proved that the Malaysian Chinese Association has really completely lost its usefulness. If a small matter like Jonker Walk closure was beyond its power then, that 's it.

A Commander-in-chief Who Doesn't Act Like One

Similarly, President Trump Is US Commander-in-chief, As Such, Whatever He Says Goes; He Calls The Shots, If You Will!

I read an article from a man who says nuclear war is non-winnable war. It's distastrous for both sides - although one side could have more nukes which prompted him to be careless in launching a nuclear missile against another country in the first place. Checked.

If someone thinks he can cow other people because he possesses more nukes and that he can escape the so-called mutual destruction due to that, he's out of his mind. There is no escape for any countries involved in a nuclear war even if one uses preemptive strikes. The attacked countries could not be utterly destroyed in a matter of minutes, which is all it takes for the attacked country to response. The phrase "Mutual destruction" was coined for a reason! Checked.

One also should never be lulled by the belief that the other party can be taken by surprise. Let's face it, every country has its intelligence gathering apparatus as a matter of course (National security). Checked.

So, there is no such thing as being taken by surprise. If country A has the designs to invade or attack country B, the latter has all the opportunity to get wind of the other's intent through its behaviors or even statements. So just forget about preemptive strike as an advantage. You may be lucky in a conventional war. But in nuclear wars: mutual destruction is the word. Checked.

Some, however, may have deluded himselves in false belief that if one is filthy rich one can do anything, including escaping from nuclear holocaust. Checked.

In a nuclear wars like one between Russia and the US, for example, hundreds of millions tons of smoke would result from the nuclear explosion fires which could block the sun and plunge the earth's temperature to so low that life can not exist, beside the heat from the explosions and their fires would have destroyed everything - humans, plants, animals and the natural resources that sustain life. Checked.

While some believe (wrongly) that certain part of the hemosphere could be less harmed by nuclear fallout or rediation, and by extension due to their resources they could escape to those places and suffer but not fatally so. This is just an illusion. That the war is between Russia and America, so the theatre of war is therefore confinded to bewteen the two countries, so let them finish each other off! The sphere of war or battle areas may be limited compared to the overall size of the planet, and confined to those areas, however what about those countries existing next to the warring countries? What about those caught in the cross-fire; or those drawn into the conflict because they were hit, though accidentally, by stray nuclear warheads? And what happens to the mutual defense agreements Russia has with its friends, and the US with NATO partners? Checked.

It's clear, therefore, a conventional war between Russia will destroy half the world while a nuclear war will destroy all mankind and the world! Checked.

So, don't forget the operative and omenous word: mutual destruction!

I am worried over Kim Yong-un's rhetorics such as to turn the US into ashes, for I am worried about President Trump's restrain in preemptive strikes even nonnuclear ones. While I believe he's a good man and can always step back from the brink, he may not be forceful enough to put down his foot when faced with demands from Gen Mattis, Gen. McMaster and Rex Tillerson - to launch attacks against N. Korea like he did against Syria by hurling 59 Tomahawk missiles just because he was affected by the pictures of dead women and babies (Beautiful babies, he called them!) after a chemical weapons attack which he attributed to Assad's army. Checked.

For him to do that so easily - based on images which came into being with Assad being unable to prevent, means something. It means the President is a human being - he has feeling of anger and emotions. That means he hurled those 59 Tomahawk missiles to Syria in anger! He was angry because Assad gassed his own people? Did Assad do that? If President Trump is asked that question he can always refer to the intelligence community which confirmed it's Assad or his army. That's easy. But other questions also arise, such as: Why act so fast, even the UN agencies responsible for investigating such chemical attacks said they don't know who did it! Checked.

Does not the statement by the UN mean anything to President Trump? That there was no evidence of Assad's culpability although the UK and French authorities had voiced their firm belief it's Assad - though qualifying by predicting that it's a matter of before the 'Smoking gun' evidence is shown. Checked.

President Trump must have embraced the UK, France and the intelligence agency's idea which Trump himself said he could hardly trust as they had lied too many times already! So, why now? Didn't or did suspect that they wanted him to make blunders so that the Dems who are their real masters could take advantage of to destroy his presidency? Has that ever occurred to him nobody knows. But this people know: He lacks steely resolve or control! You can not attack another UN-member country over something which in all likelihood is a false flag. What if that country fights back, and thousands of men and women in uniform have to die as a result? What if after UN agency investigates and points the finger at the rebels? What happens then? And Syria demands compensation (like Turkey did from Israel over its culpability over Turkish citizens deaths when Israeli commandos stormed their ship on way to break the blockage of the Gaza strip not too long ago), is he prepared to pay? Or the US takes the easy way out and ban the UN agency report? Checked.

Luckily, for him, President Assad is a forgiving man. Checked. If he were President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Turkey, he's sure to make life uncomfortable for Trump for may be a few years, or until he settles the matter to his satisfaction! Which incidentally bring us to the question of moral value, scruple, and fair play and judgement. No one can be a good man unless he possesses these qualities. These President Assad despite his being demonized on the daily basis, possesses in abundance. (Just watch the interviews he gave. He's so calm and collected and never shows anger. He's able to answer and explain all questions without faltering. He always answers all questions even the same ones over again and again, and never strays from the facts. Amazing isn't it? You know why he manages to do that? Because he probably tells the truths, not the truths he made up! Checked.

Now where were we? OK, the tension with North Korea. From my observation, the rhetoric both by President Trump and Kim Yong-un would not amount to much or lead to conflagration unless President Trump heeded the generals or his secretary of state who had their own interests to protect, and if in their view attacking the North Korea is needed, so be it. They have nothing to lose. The ones to lose or suffer are the men and women in uniform who are in harm's way - not they or President Trump or the CIA. Checked.

President Trump must think twice before he allowed his subordinates whoever they are - whether generals or big corporate former leaders - to take him to the brink like in Syria Tomahawk attack. I have high respect for all the generals but Trump should treat them the same way Obama did them for 8 years. And that is: it's my way or the highway, if you will. They are there to serve you and by extension, the American people. Period. Checked.

It's perfectly normal to feel disgusted to see pictures of children and women dying due to criminal acts by certain party, but he shouldn't allow that to interfere in his decision making. He should evaluate all the facts thoroughly, calmly after getting them through his own efforts and those presented by the intelligence community such as the CIA or/and FBI, before drawing his conclusion. Checked.

Otherwise, a lot of people will be hurt. Checked.

If President Trump does decide to attack North Korea, and it feels its survival is at stake, there's no telling what it will or can do. One thing is certain, though. He will fight back with his all like a cornered dog! Don't forget or belittle North Korea's military capability. Thanks to Obama's lack of decisiveness to act after the episode of Libyan debacle, North Korea took advantage of his hiatus to succeed in putting its satellites in space! You don't need to be a rocket scientist to know what Kim Yong-un is capable of if he wants to weaponize that technology achievement. Checked.

We can think of many things he can do or want to do if he realizes his days are numbered. For instance he can disable our national power grid! If that happens all hell will break loose in America. We will suffer may be up to a year before power is restored. Checked.

We all should pray for President Trump to be resilient in facing the continuing onslaught by the Dems over the fake Russian collusion allegation, and refrain from doing something reckless because he feels overwhelmed, that can hurt millions of Americans and will stain his name for a long, long time. Checked.

That he won't be so reckless as to start something with Kim Yong-un, which could lead to 3rd world war as China which had a mutual defense treaty with North Korea and Russia (a communist super power like China) are sure to defend North Korea! Checked.
