Again, this proved that the Malaysian Chinese Association has really completely lost its usefulness. If a small matter like Jonker Walk closure was beyond its power then, that 's it.

The following stories may fire your imagination, pique your interest. Some say 1MDB is Malaysia's Sovereign Wealth fund; to others they asked what wealth fund when its total capitalization is just One million ringgit? But, then again, if you think you can look down on the pet idea of the Malaysian prime minister, think again. His idea has the potential of turning the now world famous - or shall we say, infamous - 1Malaysia Development Berhad into a giant corporation you can ever imagine - even bigger than Bill Gate's Microsoft! At least, it could be, if the original course is stayed. It was supposed to inspire Malaysians to think big besides advance growth, according to its slogans screaming out of giant bill boards throughout the country. 'Backed' by the finance ministry who owns it - which means money will never be the problem - it can only succeed. But..it didn't. It failed! That's why it may have piqued many people's curiosity. How can a company flush with cash and can borrow any amount (billions) anytime could fail? Well, this may be in line with your thinking. People have seen since its inception - I mean after its name was changed in 1999 from Trengganu Investment Authority (TIA) to the present - it hasn't done any business! I have used present tense deliberately. It hasn't done any business yet. I mean if you are in business you need to make profit or find ways to make profit. Or close shop. Oh, I had heard about their filings of tax returns and hiring of a couple of internationally known auditors to sign off on their balance sheets; but these concerned only the company's borrowings and interests to be paid. Two massive bonds were issued to the tune of $7 billions. To buy up power plants. Again I want to say if you are in business to make money even investing in independent Power Plants, it should be done with the view to making a profit. The decision may be long term or short term, it doesn't matter, it has to make money, or no deal. May be they have done the right thing. Maybe luck was not on their side. Still, the amount is staggering. I didn't know having or managing so much money can be a problem! But many - especially the Malays - have not given up hope yet. Yes, may be the durians are just ripening; may be they need time and may fall soon!

Malaysia's Vision 2020

Malaysia is supposed to be on its way to becoming a developed nation, by the year 2020. Will she make it (in less than five years -tick-tuck, tick-tuck)? There is no doubt the year 2020 is coming whether the country is ready or not, and if that will be the only requirement then Malaysia will attain that developed nation status on schedule. There is a question, though, Will Malaysia, or Malaysians, for that matter, be ready for that status as far as their affluence, quality of life's concern? Currently Malaysia's GNI per capita stood at US$10060. According to the World Bank high income economies are those with GNI per capita of US$12,745. And until Malaysians earn much more to be there, the developed nation status may not be achieved even by the year 2020. The futility of declaring a country a high income country when it's not, achieves nothing. May be even counter-productive; it lulls the country into false sense of success and premature celebration. Don't forget China reportedly overtook Japan as the world's second largest economy, but in actual fact China's citizens' ca pita income is a fraction of the incomes of the Japanese who earn $37,000. Chinese incomes range from $13,000. China's gross domestic product, taken as a whole, may beat Japan's, but in term of quality of life, and GNI per capita income, the criteria for a developed nation status, China still has a lot of catching up to do. That's why China still qualifies as recipient of Japan's economic aid meant for developing countries. Comparing with the Chinese per capita domestic product, Malaysia is even worse off. Unless the government bucks up and rushes to create more wealth for its citizens, the Vision 2020 dream may remain just that ..a dream.

They Discovered That The North Koreans - or Asians, for that Matter, Are No Syrians! !
All chest thumping, all sabre-rattling, all harsh tone by the administration, deemed to be different from the preceding administration, in term of meaning what they say they will do, or walk the talk, if you will, have taken a 180% turn after they hurled 59 Tomahawk missiles into Syria..said to be timed to coincide with arrival of President Xi of China, who incidentally or deliberately had an earful of what the new and by extension, fearless government of America had just done to Assad's Syria.
It was originally and primarily intended to send a "Shock and Awe" message to US's foes, be they from the Russian-Assad-Iran camp or China and North Korea side, including President Xi himself who with Madame Xi were the guests of honor at Trump's Mar-a-Lagos resort. While President Xi were treated properly by being informed right after the 59 missiles were fired, the way he was informed and even the firing of the missiles was crude and insensitive as China was the adversary of the US just a few weeks ago, when Rex Tillerson warned China to stop building artificial islands in South China Sea which he also threatened to prevent China's access to, and therefore the "Shock and Awe" message was for the consumption of North Korea and China, mainly the latter for two purposes: To cow China which everyone knows would never back down over the South China Sea issue! To make China throw the Hermit Kingdom regime under the bus; and 2, to give up the area encircled by its so-called nine-dash lines and accept the world court's verdict and to negotiate a new trade agreement between China and America.
After an afterthought, however, and thanks to Ivanka's daughter Arabella's influence, Trump now felt sympathy for Xi, who must have felt they have been treated shabbily, insulted! He including all and sundry in China who lobbied Trump for this summit never expected President Trump to mix business with pleasure. They never believed Trump would run off occasionally and be absent from the dinner just long enough to threaten Syria's Assad with possible regime change. And to hear the MSM including Fox News to keep asking the WH whether the sending of the Tomahawk bombs to Syria and the dropping of the Moab on ISIS tunnel complex in Afghanistan, which were never used before, was intended to send "Shock and Awe" message to US foes such as Russia and China, just rubbed salt into the wound.
So to make amend President Trump relented and agreed to reaffirm the 1-China policy (which on the contrary, earlier he vowed to compel China to give a concession in exchange for); threw his contentious claim of China being an unfair trade partner which he wanted punished, out the window - arguing, "How Can I label China a currency manipulator when it's now helping us (with the North Koreans)!"
There was no concret actions taken by China or Xi so far to tame the Hermit Kingdom, except dispatching some 150,000 men of People's Liberation Army, (and what for?) and porpurtedly refusing to receive a one-off North Korean coal shipment.
But, correct me if I am wrong, President Trump's change of heart was caused by none other than his love for his daughter Ivanka! Remember, during the sumptuous dinner the president's grand daughter Arabella was presented (introduced) to the Middle Kingdom couple with much pageantry. That's not all, Arabella was said to be interested in things Chinese and could speak Mandarin fluently, Xi and Madame Xi were told.
This not only melted the hearts of the Chinese state guests but also caused a change in President Trump, akin to what happened when the president was shown those pictures of women and children (beautiful children he added) dying from the effect of chemical weapons Assad was accused of perpetrating! From then onwards China's no more an unfair trade partner but a friend (in need, if you will)!
Now even Kim Yong-un is no more earmarked for removal. And Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, Mad-dog Mattis and the all-influential H.R. Mcmaster all of them have returned to the right path; they no more talk big like what they did a few days ago! They have realized they have to step back from the brink or President Trump would be a one-term president. And they the three cahoots would be remembered in history as the war mongers who intentionally carried out the orders from former president Obama, the Left and Liberals including Hillary Clinton and her husband Bill, to destroy the Trump presidency.
Lest people accuse me of being against the Army, let me assure everyone this is not so. The US army - I mean armed forces - have a permanent place in my heart. I salute them and value their service to this country which will never be forgotten but..after Barack Hussein Obama (who should not be allowed to run for president at all) became president he started the process to restructure the US armed forces and tabooed many traditions of the US defense forces to the point of demoralizing the rank and file men and women in uniforms. He appointed pliable generals or commanders to do as they were told. They were told to disallow anything Christians worship or practice, to not offend the Muslims, they say! When these soldiers protested these traditions had been observed over hundreds of years, the Obama appointee generals or COs, would not budge.
Even after Obama had left the scene his influence remaimed with these generals. Short of Obama died and was cremated, the hold (his hold) over these people (generals or col or captain) remained; like the fed officials who were Obama appointees would do their all to serve Obama. Appointees like Sally Yades, for example, they have been completely compelled by Obama that they will remain loyal to Obama to their graves!
It is clear from the toning down of sabre-rattling by President Trump that "If China could not or would not help us with the North Korea, we would do it ourselves." His secretary of state was the first to change course; secretary of defense was also much subdued in his statements, quote: "We will do everything in our power to...find a peaceful solution through talks!" As for Gen. McMaster the condemning of him for being behind the drive to bomb Syria and cause regime change have been loud and clear. Some thought he was serving the interests of anti-Trump foces namely Obama and the Dems. May be or may be not. We shouldn't jump to conclusion; McMaster could not force Trump to do what he didn't like. Bombing Syria he happened to like, so he did it.
But then again, we should be happy that the wind seemed to blow in different direction. The Carl Vinson strike group never intended to steam to North Korea, despite administration claims - they are now thousands of miles away from Korean penisular, heading far and far away.
These are but the same actions to be expected from Western Leaders and ordinary people, for when it comes to fist-fights you have to hand over to the Thais, fieceness and defiance are the trademarks of Asians. And the Americans haven't forgotten how tenacious were the Vietnamese army.
And I predict President Trump's sabrerattling will not go far or last long. I believe he will turn to saying conciliatory things to Kim-Yong-Un to calm the situation. Trump knows very well what will happen if he touches North Korea which even China is wary of doing so. The Korean army numbers up to almost 2 millions will be hard to kill all or subdue.
It's possble they could pour in S. Korea and wreak havoc, and with Kim-Yong Un, he will order to fight to the last man and may even seize Seoul!
Let's hope President Trump would think it through carefully whatever he wants to do, for a war with North Korea, as China's foreign minister says, nobody wins.
And don't forget: North Korea has nuclear weapons, old-fashioned or state of the art device.
And just remember how North Korea killed Kim Yong-un's half brother by just getting two women to touch him with a nerve gas; he died instantly!
North Korea was reported to have up to 5000 ton of chemical weapons!
